The last updates to the first edition of The Vegan Tourist: Vienna were posted on this page on May 3rd, 2016. The second edition of this book was published on May 2, 2016, you’ll find updates here.

Updates for the first English-language edition of The Vegan Tourist: Vienna (printed version and Kindle eBook) – published in November 2014. I am not including updates about prices, opening hours, or company holidays on this page, as these change frequently over time.

Chapter “Good to Know”:

Breakfast.
There are some changes to the list of restaurants, which offer breakfast:

Yamm! in the 1st district is now also open on Sundays, and you can eat breakfast there every day. They now have a breakfast menu (no more breakfast buffet). (Updated May 3, 2016).

Harvest does not offer breakfast during the week anymore, but due to huge demand now offers brunch on Saturdays and on public holidays in addition to Sundays. (Updated January 2, 2015).

Dancing Shiva Superfoods also offers breakfast now from Monday – Friday. On Saturdays, you can participate in the Raw Brunch (24.00 Euros). (Updated May 3, 2015)

Happy Cakes closed its doors at the end of October 2014, so no more breakfasts at this restaurant. (Updated January 2, 2015).

Cafes.
New opening hours for Cafe Neko: daily 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM. (Updated January 2, 2015)

Farmers Markets.
When I published the 1st edition of this book, a section of the Naschmarkt market was under construction and closed to the public. All the shops havennow reopened. (Updated May 3, 2016)

Punsch.
In December 2014 Vienna finally had its first vegan Christmas market, organized by the Vegan Society Austria in cooperation with the Volkshochschule Hietzing from December 5-6, 2014: The Vegan X-Mas Village 2014. There were food stalls, which sold vegan delicacies and vegan drinks including Punsch (punch). This Vegan X-Mas Village was a huge success, unfortunately the Christmas market was a much smaller affair in 2015. (Updated May 3, 2016).

Stammtisch.
The Vegan Society Austria has a new website, and the information on their old site is not updated anymore. The link http://www.vegan.at/newsundinfo/stammtisch.html is outdated. Instead, information about current Stammtische is posted at:

1st district:

Die Bio Bar von Antun is now closed on Mondays. (Updated October 1, 2015).

Eis-Greissler is closed during the winter months. Opening hours change throughout the year. The shop is open daily during the summer, but shorter opening hours apply in the spring and fall. (Updated October 1, 2015).

2nd district:

Falaferia at Taborstraße 38/1c, 1020 Vienna, is now closed. (Updated October 1, 2015).

The owner sold his store and the new owners opened a Falaferia fast food restaurant at the Praterstern subway station (1st sub-level, stall #4) in August 2014. There are fairly clean public bathrooms in the train station (50 cents admission). There are a few high chairs and tables for in-store eating. Opening hours: daily 10:00 AM – 11:00 PM. Harvest is now closed on Wednesdays. Their popular Sunday brunch is now also offered on Saturdays and on public holidays. (Updated May 3, 2016).

NomNom vegan bakery is a new all-vegan cake shop and café. Some of their cupcakes, cakes and cookies are also gluten-free. Address: Lilienbrunngasse 5, 1020 Vienna. Opening hours: Tuesday – Fridays 12:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Saturdays 12:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Closed on Sundays, Mondays, and on public holidays. Rita bringt’s is the name of a vegetarian, organic food delivey service. The owner of Reformhaus Völkl retired, but the new owner Reform Martin GmbH will continue to operate a health food store with an in-house vegatarian bistro at the same location. The shop and restaurant reopened in mid-February 2016. (Updated February 2016).

Tian Bistro considerably reduced the vegan options on its menu. The restaurant has also a new URL for its website. (Updated January 9, 2015).

Swing Kitchen opened at Schottenfeldgasse 3 in the 7th district in early January 2015. It’s a vegan fast food restaurant – hamburgers without the meat. They also have vegan desserts: try the Tirami su! Charlie Schillinger and his wife Irene own the popular Gasthaus Schillinger in the state of Lower Austria.
